Hi Vibhu, my tennis fanatic dad and I don’t understand tournament seeding. What is the advantage/reward for Roger Federer in being a #3 seed at Wimbledon when he is playing #1 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals? Andy Murray is seeded lower at #4, why shouldn’t he play Djokovic instead? Federer is at a disadvantage despite being seeded higher than Murray. Is there a random component to the way tournament brackets are set up? If so, does the word “seeding” not accurately describe what’s going on? If we compare it to the way the NCAA seeds their basketball regionals and tournaments in some other sports, 1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15 in the other half of the bracket, and so on, the NCAA way seems fairer. Is there a justification for why tennis apparently ignores seeding in many cases?

    Dear Vibhu

I am Simon Graf, a Swiss tennis writer who had the privilege to report about most of Roger Federer’s major wins at first hand. Since I got in contact with you through twitter, I wanted to let you know that I have recently published a book about the golden era of Swiss tennis. And of course, Roger plays a big part in it. We’ve dedicated five chapters to him, including an insightful interview with him and one with funny cartoons. It was the first time he contributed to a book himself. The book was published in English, German and French. If you wish to get a first impression, don’t hesitate to have a look at our homepage (www.jubeljahre.ch – it’s in English, too). We got great reviews so far. And we’re trying to spread the word about the book, especially to Roger’s fans all over the world. Would you be interested in getting a pdf copy of the book, or rather a printed copy through the regular mail? Hope to hear from you!

    Kind regards, Simon

    Dear Vibhu,
Sub : A humble request for sponsorship from a father for his son

    Happy New Year.

My elder son Aditya Vardhan Roy Chowdhury
presently 14 years old had a passion for sports from childhood and he
persuaded in the game of tennis from the age of six in Bengal Tennis
Association in Kolkata. He slowly worked hard and has now upgraded
himself to All India Ranking in the category of under 14 . He ended this year with a ranking of 31 in the all India level .

    He
    was the
Bengal State level champion category under 12 and under 14 for the two
consecutive years and was the double crown champion in Calcutta Hard
Court in under 12 and under 14 in the year 2014 . This tournament is the
most prestigious tournament played in junior levels in this part of
India. The legendary Sri, Naresh Kumar presented him his trophy from his
    cupboard

    Presently
he has shifted to Bangalore along with his mother for the last six months where he is practicing under the
supervision of a personal coach and traveling from one part of India to
the other part to play high level tournaments organized by All India Tennis Association (AITA), Delhi.

    As
you know that this sport is an expensive game and my son dreams to
reach his goal to be another Leander Paes from Kolkata, I would be
obliged if you kindly help me by providing a small sponsorship for him
so it will help him to move forward in his career of tennis. As a
parent, we are supporting him from our level best but a little help from a
    corporate will enhance his career.

Earlier he was sponsored by Bengal Tennis Association in the FUTURE KIDS PROGRAM. He was there for the last 3 years.

I am attaching the picture of my son for your knowledge. The other documents

Hope to get a positive response from your side.

    Thanking you

    Yours truly
